Housing Hero Awards recognize outstanding service by nominees in seven categories for 2013. The awards are named in honor of the outstanding public service exemplified by the late Brian Mickelsen, as an original member of the Arizona Housing Finance Authority and as the city manager for the Town of Cottonwood.
The 2013 Housing Hero Awards will be presented at a luncheon on Friday, September 20 as part of the 2013 Arizona Housing Forum at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, AZ The deadline for nominations is July 26, 2013. Download the nomination form and criteria in the links on this page.
Complete and save the nomination form in a .pdf format and insert any narrative or photo pages behind the nomination form. Send the new file, via e-mail, to Housing Hero Award Nominations by the nomination deadline date. Please name the file with the name of the nominee.
The nomination form may also be sent with narrative attachments, via fax to 602-771-1002 by the July 26th nomination deadline date.

INNOVATIVE SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM OR SERVICE | Recognizes creative programs and services that provide outstanding housing related support and resources to individuals. Eligible nominations include those that result in responsive housing programs, support services, special needs programs including homelessness and supportive housing, and activities focused on education relating to affordable housing including foreclosure and homeownership counseling.
OUTSTANDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING INITIATIVE | Recognizes the efforts of a local program that creates, improves or promotes affordable housing. Eligible nominations can include activities such as housing construction or rehabilitation, a coordinated community development or neighborhood revitalization strategy with a housing element, units for rental or homeownership, financing arrangements, or public-private participation.
EXEMPLARY RURAL MULTIFAMILY PROJECT | Recognizes an outstanding multifamily rental project in rural Arizona (defined as outside of Maricopa and Pima Counties) that serves low to moderate income individuals, families or seniors. Eligible nominations include rental projects that have completed construction in the past 5 years and have one more of the following elements: outstanding architectural design, transit orientated design, green building technology, mixed use, preservation/revitalization, serves a public benefit, such as housing for chronically homeless, children with special needs, parents of special needs children, aging in place with children, etc.
EXEMPLARY URBAN MULTIFAMILY PROJECT | Recognizes an outstanding multifamily rental project in urban Arizona (defined as Maricopa and Pima Counties) that serves low to moderate income individuals, families or seniors. Eligible nominations include rental projects that have completed construction in the past 5 years and have one more of the following elements: outstanding architectural design, transit orientated design, green building technology, mixed use, preservation/revitalization, serves a public benefit, such as housing for chronically homeless, children with special needs, parents of special needs children, aging in place with children, etc.
TRIBAL INITIATIVES | Recognizes achievement in helping to meet the housing needs of tribal members in Arizona through the provision of housing and/or services. Eligible nomination include housing construction or rehabilitation projects, programs to promote economic self-sufficiency and asset building, infrastructure improvements, and community/ master planning on tribal lands.
ARTHUR CROZIER PARTNER IN HOUSING AWARD | This award celebrates the single action or a lifetime of successes of an individual committed to improving the lives of families and the health of communities through recognition that decent, affordable housing is basic to our social fabric. In 2008, this award was renamed to honor the service of Arthur Crozier, a longtime Arizona realtor and member of both the Arizona Housing Commission and the Arizona Housing Finance Authority.
ELECTED OFFICIAL | An Arizona elected official who has demonstrated ongoing support for affordable housing projects and programs including housing for homeless, domestic violence, special needs and low income families and seniors. Application must state the accomplishments achieved by the elected official to qualify.
