Have you been discriminated against when making your housing choice?

Any person who believes that he or she has been discriminated against by a housing provider or professional may file a charge with the Civil Rights Division of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office within one year of the time the discrimination occurred. A person may also file a civil action within two years of the date the discrimination occurred, regardless of whether a complaint was filed with the Division, and without regard to the status of any ongoing investigation.


There is no cost to file a complaint
. Persons who believe they have been discriminated against should contact the Civil Rights Division of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. Most charges filed with the Division are considered to be dual-filed with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Civil Rights Division investigates and resolves housing discrimination complaints. It also mediates and conciliates complaints, and it can bring legal action on an individual’s behalf if no solution can be found prior to litigation being initiated.
